WINERY HISTORY
Cantina Sociale Mendrisio was founded in 1949 by a small group of Mendrisiotto winegrowers. Today it boasts more than 200 members and continues its work, being the only winery with cooperative status in the canton.
In 1962 the first rooted cuttings were planted at Montalbano, making up what is now considered one of the largest vineyards in Canton Ticino. The Montalbano Estate is located in San Pietro di Stabio, was donated to the winery by Eng. Paleari and is surrounded by more than 20 hectares of vineyards.

CURIOSITY.
The Mendrisio Social Winery, being a cooperative society groups about 200 members. There are conferring members and supporting members. It was founded in 1949 precisely to bring together and enable all those people who had vineyards to be able to make their own wine, even if the quantities of their grapes and their technical knowledge of them were not sufficient. To this day this tradition has been maintained, and the harvest season, as tiring as it is, is experienced as the time of reckoning, when the fruit of a hard year's work is harvested. This is a beautiful moment in the winery: every winemaker arrives proud, happy to have the fruit of his labor in his hands, whether it is a few kilos or 100 quinals.
