Mendrisio is the most vineyard-covered city in Canton Ticino, and its region is best known for its strong ties to tradition and the undisputed quality of its food and wine offerings. The city of Mendrisio is also, even today, known as the Magnifico Borgo, an appellation that testifies to its history and to the presence in the historic center of different monuments that recall its illustrious past: picturesque alleys, typical houses with internal courtyards and terracotta roofs, and medieval and baroque churches.
The festival is generally a folk festival with a traditional character that originates from the celebration of an event of a religious nature or commemoration, mainly of saints, sometimes of the patron saint, or created to celebrate the harvest and to promote a local food and wine product. The Sagra del Borgo, which is intended to be a celebration of the harvest and its products, is for all intents and purposes the harvest festival and aspires to become the event that allows people to walk the streets of the historic center of the Magnifico Borgo while appreciating and rediscovering local traditions, customs, customs and products.
