Mendrisio is the city with the most vineyards in the Canton of Ticino, and the region is known above all for its strong ties to tradition and the undisputed quality of its food and wine. The town of Mendrisio is also known today as the “Magnifico Borgo”(Magnificent Village), a name that reflects its history and the presence in its historic center of various monuments that recall its illustrious past: charming alleyways, traditional houses with inner courtyards and terracotta roofs, and medieval and Baroque churches.
A sagra is generally a traditional folk festival that originates from the celebration of a religious event or a commemoration—primarily of saints, sometimes of the patron saint—or is created to celebrate the harvest and promote a local food and wine product. The Sagra del Borgo, intended as a celebration of the grape harvest and its products, is in every sense a harvest festival and aims to become the event that allows visitors to stroll through the streets of the historic center of the Magnifico Borgo while appreciating and rediscovering local traditions, customs, and products.
