Native pumpkins is featured in events that celebrate tradition and territory, taking part in events and demonstrations.
The young company FutureFarmers by agronomists Davide Croci and Lorenzo Tognola aims to implement projects to increase economic, social and environmental sustainability.
An example of this is the "Zucche Nostrane" project, which consists of self-service carts distributed throughout the territory, where during the period from September to the beginning of November it is possible to dispose of Ticino pumpkins produced thanks to farms in the Mendrisiotto and Lugano areas. The unsold pumpkins are transformed into gnocchi made from local pumpkin, thus ensuring that the product is also valued during the winter.
There are many local businesses involved in this initiative that promotes sustainability, land enhancement and social inclusiveness. In addition to the involvement of producers in the vicinity of the self-services, FutureFarmers collaborates with the Sant'Angelo Foundation of Loverciano and the Don Guanella Foundation of Riva San Vitale, which take care of the management of the carts, including cleaning, filling and maintenance. To date, pumpkin processing is provided by the artisanal pasta factory Spiga Regina in Mendrisio.
