The Swiss Association of Friends of Mills (ASAM) organizes the annual Swiss Mills Day, held on the Saturday following Ascension Day. During that day throughout the Confederation, mills open their doors to visitors. This national event is an important part of ASAM's work for the public. In the past each year more than 25,000 people have joined the event.
In Ticino, they participate:
The first day was held on May 26, 2001, and 62 factories participated. The unexpectedly successful event was the result of the careful organization and efforts of ASAM founding member Walter Weiss and his working group. By the tenth day, which took place on May 15, 2010, already 127 mills had opened their doors to visitors who are increasing in number every year. In 2016, 110 installations scattered throughout the country joined the event and showed their riches to the public. The organization is now in the hands of the ASAM Committee, under the direction of Christoph Hagmann. The firm of Haller and Jenzer has been contracted to handle registration and editing of the guidebook.
