ARRHOV FRICK. URSPRUNG Origin/Origin.

  • Mendrisio Architecture Theater 25 Via Alfonso Turconi Mendrisio, TI, 6850 Switzerland (map)

The exhibition, located on the ground floor and in the first gallery of the Mendrisio Architecture Theater, is organized into a series of thematic sections that explore the research and design methods of the Swedish architecture firm Arrhov Frick.

Each section is accompanied by numerous drawings by the architects and large-scale photographs by Swedish artist Mikael Olsson, who has developed a distinctive style in his interpretation of architecture—namely, a radical re-visioning and re-presentation of it through the medium of photography.

In addition to the substantial exhibition of Mikael Olsson’s photographic work—which over the years has captured most of Arrhov Frick’s projects in images—a series of “site-specific” textile works will be installed. These were created by students at the Academy based on research and data regarding the analysis of local environmental conditions and following the creative methods of the workshops led by Akane Moriyama, a Japanese artist based in Stockholm who has long collaborated with the Swedish architectural firm on the creation of textile and layered elements—whether ephemeral or not—that often serve as distinctive features of their architectural designs.

To conclude the collective creative experiences at the Teatro dell’Architettura Mendrisio, Asako Iwama, an artist based in Berlin and Tokyo, will share her background as both a chef and an artist with the public in an experimental workshop exploring the social dimensions of food.
